We have clean sheets and towels and so I suppose I can consider Monday to have been a success.

It is a good idea to have fairly low standards for having been a success in life, it is far more satisfactory than beating yourself up about unattainable goals like getting all of the windows cleaned and scraping the black mould off the underneath of the window sill.

I have achieved my goals for the day, and hence can feel pleased with myself.

Mark has been coming with me over the fells in the mornings, since he has not yet departed for the choppy waters of the North Sea. It is nice to have company, although a trifle unsettling. I keep forgetting that he is there, and stumping along in silence with my head down, lost in my own thoughts. He is good company on a walk, because of knowing everything about everything, and he has been making friendly overtures to the mad wild Galloway cows as we pass them by the gate.

The cows are entirely suspicious about being befriended, and are gazing at him with beady eyes, because they are not the sort of cows who have been accustomed to having their backs rubbed or the knobbly bit between their ears scratched. Mark says that they need the hair trimming around their eyes because it is making it difficult for them to see where they are going, but I don’t suppose that anybody will ever bother.

When we got back he buzzed off to the shed, where he is taking the camper van door off. This was an enormous sliding affair, operated by some kind of hydraulic system. We don’t want it, and in any case we want the door in a different place, so he has been busy dismantling it all in order to rebuild it a few inches to the right, which is where we have decided would be an optimum site for a door. We are going to have a fireplace next to it, which we are going to run on bio-ethanol fuel, because I don’t want all of the faffing about with firewood and dust, but on recollection, do not think I want to live without a fire.

Whilst Mark was at the van I did the clean-sheets-and-hoovering stuff, and then faffed about trying to sort out a new host for my website. I have found one but not yet migrated the site, that is planned for the next few days, you might well find that I have gone unusually quiet. This will be because moving a whole website by myself is going to be about as much fun as when we had to help Lucy to move house into a third floor flat. I suspect that it is going to be A Challenge.

In between times I have been contemplating curtain fabrics. This is my Next Project. I am going to have to make the curtains and of course all of the other soft furnishing stuff for the van, as I think I might have mentioned. We have decided that we would like to do it in dark blue velvet throughout, and so had probably better start doing the lottery. I don’t suppose that you are especially up to date with the price of high end upholstery velvet, but I can tell you now that we are going to need almost sixty yards of it, and all of the noughts are at the uncomfortable end of the number

We are going to have a Day Off tomorrow. I am not sure that I will manage to get the website sorted out as a part of it, because now that the housework is finished I thought I might go off to the camper van and be helpful.

I won’t be very helpful, obviously, my welding and cutting skills are about as minimal as it is possible for them to be, but I am going to go anyway.

It will probably be more fun than washing the sheets.
